Defining Success on Your Own Terms: Finding Purpose and Fulfillment

Introduction: What you might call success, someone else might see as a prison. Success is deeply personal, and that’s the beauty of life. Each of us has our own purpose and priorities, and what makes one person feel fulfilled may not resonate with another. Success is subjective—it’s not a universal achievement but a reflection of what matters most to us individually. I believe that every person has the power to define their own success and the ability to shape it every day. Today, I want to share my journey with success and how you, too, can find your unique path to a fulfilling life.

1. Understanding that Success is Personal: For some, success means financial wealth. For others, it’s a strong circle of friends or a balanced life. Success can shift depending on where you are in life and what you value at the time. The important thing to remember is that success is yours to define. If you don’t feel successful, you have the power to change that. I believe that success is a daily choice, a mindset that we cultivate through our actions and intentions. No one else can decide what success should mean for you; it’s a personal journey that only you can define.
2. My Definition of Success: To me, success isn’t about accumulating money or material things. Success, for me, is about helping others and living in alignment with how God wants me to live. I feel fulfilled by giving back, growing in my faith, and following the purpose I believe was set out for me. My priorities may differ from others, and that’s okay. Each of us has our own path to follow. Finding your version of success requires introspection and honesty with yourself about what truly brings you joy. I encourage everyone to take the time to discover what success looks like to them, without comparing themselves to others.
3. A Journey of Learning, Growth, and Gratitude: I consider myself successful not because of wealth, but because of what I’ve been fortunate enough to accomplish and learn. As a child, I dreamed of owning a home, and with determination—and God’s plan for me—I was able to purchase not just one, but three homes. Achieving this goal opened my mind to future possibilities and fueled my desire to work hard for the life I envision. Along my journey, I’ve had incredible opportunities to develop skills in areas from leadership to programming, selling to audio editing. Life has been my teacher, and I’ve grown by learning from others, from books, and from experiences.
4. Embracing Success as a Lifelong Choice: At only 30 years old, I feel excited for what’s to come. I’ve learned so much, yet I know there’s always more to discover. I choose to be successful every day, embracing the opportunities that come my way and continuing to learn and grow. A powerful quote guides me: “If God is with me, who can be against me?” This faith, this mindset, and this commitment to growth are what make me feel truly successful. If you don’t feel successful right now, remember that you have the power to start redefining it for yourself, beginning today.
Conclusion: Success is a journey, not a destination, and it’s yours to define. Only you can determine what success means to you, and you have the freedom to choose it every day. If your definition of success involves hard work, fulfillment, or personal growth, embrace it. Learn from others, seek guidance from books and mentors, but ultimately, trust yourself to make the final decision. Success isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept; it’s an expression of who you are and what you value. Take ownership of your life and choose to live it fully on your terms.
